A parallel paper tube making machine is an industrial system that automatically produces straight, cylindrical tubes and cores from rolls of paper or paperboard. The term "parallel" refers to the tube's consistent diameter from end to end and the fact that the paper is wound with its fibers predominantly parallel to the tube's length (as opposed to a spiral wind, which has a distinct helical seam).
These tubes are essential industrial components used as:
Cores: For winding materials like plastic film, foil, textiles, labels, and paper.
Packaging: For protecting products like posters, carpets, and documents.
Functional Products: Such as concrete column forms (sonotubes), containers, and more.
The machine operates as a continuous production line. Here's the journey of the paper:
Unwinding: Large rolls of paper (parent rolls) are loaded onto the unwind stand. Advanced machines have a splicing table to join a new roll to the end of an expiring one without stopping production.
Web Guiding & Conditioning: The paper web is fed through tension control and guiding systems to ensure it runs perfectly straight and aligned. It may pass through pre-heating rollers to dry the paper or activate adhesive.
Gluing: A precise gluing unit applies a controlled bead of adhesive along the edge of the paper. Hot melt adhesive is common for its instant bond, while PVA (white glue) is used for high-strength requirements.
Forming (The Heart of the Machine): The paper is wrapped around a stationary, polished steel mandrel whose diameter defines the tube's inner diameter. A continuous forming belt presses against the paper on the mandrel, creating the friction that pulls the paper through while tightly winding the plies to form a solid, multi-layered tube wall.
Cutting: Once the tube is formed and the adhesive has set enough, a cutting unit slices the continuous tube to the required length.
Rotary Cutter: A high-speed blade that cuts without stopping the tube's forward motion.
Saw Cutter: A reciprocating or circular saw used for thicker-walled or large-diameter tubes.
Discharge & Drying: The cut tubes are conveyed away on a belt. This conveyor provides sufficient time for the adhesive to fully cure before the tubes are collected, stacked, or packaged.
