The Two Main Processes in One System1. Cutting (Slitting & Sheeting)This is the first stage. It starts with a massive roll of paper (called a "parent reel" or "jumbo roll") that can be over a meter wide and several kilometers long. Unwinding: The roll is mounted on an unwinder, which feeds the paper into the machine at a controlled tension. Slitting: The wide web of paper passes through circular blades (slitters) that cut it lengthwise into multiple, narrower strips. The arrangement of these slitters is set to eventually create the 297mm dimension of an A4 sheet. Sheeting/Cutting: The now-slit paper web moves forward to a cross-cutting unit. A high-speed rotary or guillotine cutter cuts the paper at precise intervals to create the 210mm dimension. The result is a stream of perfect A4 sheets.
2. Packing (Counting, Collating, and Wrapping)The freshly cut A4 sheets are then collected, counted, and packaged. Counting & Stacking: The sheets are counted electronically (often with sensors or high-speed cameras) and stacked into groups of 500 to form a ream. Ream Wrapping: The stack of 500 sheets is tightly compressed and fed into a wrapping station. Here, it is typically wrapped in a protective craft paper or plastic film to protect it from moisture and damage. Cartoning (Optional): For higher-end systems, the wrapped reams can be automatically packed into cardboard boxes (e.g., 5 or 10 reams per box). A4 paper cutting and packing machine is a sophisticated piece of industrial equipment that automates the transformation of bulk paper into the familiar, store-bought A4 reams. The choice of machine depends entirely on the scale of operation, from massive paper mills running 24/7 to small print shops needing occasional on-demand cutting.
