What is a High-Speed Paper Slitting and Rewinding Machine?

It is a machine designed to unwind a large parent roll, slit it into multiple narrower strips with precise widths, and rewind those strips onto individual cores at high speeds.

The primary goals are:

1. Increase Efficiency: Process large rolls much faster than manual methods.

2. Achieve Precision: Create multiple narrow rolls with perfectly parallel edges and consistent tension.

3. Improve Quality: Produce finished rolls that are hard, uniform, and free of defects like wrinkles, tears, or telescoping.

Key Components of the Machine

A typical machine consists of three main stations:

1. Unwinding Station

· Function: Holds and controls the feeding of the large master roll.

· Key Features:

   · Shafted or Shaftless: Uses a motorized shaft or pneumatic arms to hold the roll.

   · Brakes/Tension Control: Precisely controls the torque to maintain proper web tension as the roll diameter decreases.

   · Automatic Splicer (for non-stop operation): Allows a new master roll to be spliced to the running web without stopping the machine, crucial for high efficiency.

2. Slitting Station

· Function: Cuts the wide web into multiple narrow strips. This is the core of the "slitting" process.

· Common Slitting Methods:

   · Razor Slitting (Shear Cut): Uses a sharp, stationary razor blade pressed against a rotating roller. Ideal for thin, soft materials like paper, tissue, and films. Provides a clean, precise cut.

   · Score (Crush) Slitting: Uses a male circular blade that "scores" or "crushes" the material against a hardened female roller. Good for thicker materials.

   · Shear Slitting: Uses two matched, overlapping circular blades (like scissors) that rotate together. Excellent for heavier, more rigid materials and provides the cleanest edge for technical films and laminates.

3. Rewinding Station

· Function: Collects the slit strips and winds them onto new cores to form the finished rolls.

· Key Features:

   · Dual Rewind Shafts: Allow for continuous operation. One shaft is winding while the other is being unloaded of finished rolls.

   · Tension Control: Maintains consistent winding hardness from the core to the outer diameter.

   · Differential Rewind Systems: The most advanced method, where each individual rewind shaft has its own motor. This allows for perfect tension control for each strip, even if their diameters are different, preventing defects.

4. Control System & Drive

· The Brain: A PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and touchscreen HMI (Human-Machine Interface) allow the operator to set all parameters: speed, tension, length, width, etc.

· Precision Drives: AC servo motors and drives provide the precise speed and torque control needed for high-speed, stable operation.
