In simple terms, it's a machine that performs two main functions:
Slitting: It cuts the wide master roll (the "jumbo roll") into multiple strips of a specific width using sharp blades.
Rewinding: It rewinds these slit strips onto new, smaller cardboard cores to create finished, manageable rolls for shipping and use.
Primary Use: To customize the width and length of kraft paper rolls to meet specific customer requirements for various applications like packaging, wrapping, and bag making.
A typical machine consists of the following parts:
Unwind Stand: Holds the large master roll. It can be pneumatic or hydraulic for easy loading and often has a brake system to maintain proper web tension.
Web Guide System (Optional but important): Ensures the paper web runs straight into the machine, preventing misalignment and uneven edges.
Slitting Unit: The heart of the machine. This can be:
Razor Blade Slitting: Uses a sharp, stationary razor blade pressed against a rubber-covered roller. Ideal for standard kraft paper, cost-effective, and simple.
Shear Cut Slitting: Uses a circular upper blade that "scissors" against a lower blade. Provides a cleaner, dust-free cut, better for heavy-duty or coated kraft paper.
Spreader Bars / Bows: Lightly spread the paper after slitting to prevent the strips from curling into each other and to ensure tight, even rewinding.
Rewind Shaft: A heavy-duty shaft that holds the empty cardboard cores. The slit paper strips are rewound onto these cores.
Tension Control System: Crucial for producing hard, uniform rolls. It can be mechanical, electronic, or pneumatic, controlling the torque applied during rewinding.
Drive System: The motor(s) that power the entire machine.
Control Panel: Houses the PLC and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) for operators to set parameters like speed, length, and tension.
The rolls produced by these machines are used in:
Corrugated Box Plants: As wrapping for finished boxes.
Paper Bag Making Machines: As the raw material for grocery bags, cement bags, etc.
Plywood & Laminate Industry: For interleaving and surface protection.
Logistics & Warehousing: For void-fill, wrapping, and pallet wrapping.
Construction: As a protective membrane or masking.
Printing: As a substrate for various printing processes.
