What is a Paper Core Making Machine?A paper core making machine is an industrial system designed to manufacture paper tubes and cores. These are the cylindrical cardboard structures you find at the center of rolls of materials like plastic wrap, aluminum foil, fabric, paper, and industrial materials like film and foil. How Does a Paper Core Making Machine Work? (The Process)The process is continuous and can be broken down into several key stages: Unwinding (De-reeling): Large rolls of paper (the "parent rolls") are loaded onto the unwinding stands. A modern machine often has 2-4 unwind stands to allow for multiple paper layers and different paper grades (e.g., a smooth outer layer and a strong inner layer). Paper Conditioning: The paper web passes through a pre-heating unit. This makes the paper more pliable, improves adhesive penetration, and results in a stronger final product. Gluing: A gluing unit applies a precise, controlled amount of adhesive (typically PVA or starch-based) to one side of the paper web. Advanced machines have systems to apply glue in patterns (like spiral lines) to reduce waste and ensure a strong bond without excess. Spiral Winding: This is the heart of the machine. The glued paper is fed onto a rotating steel mandrel (a solid rod of the desired inner diameter). As the mandrel turns, it pulls the paper, which winds around itself in a continuous spiral. The angle of the wind is controlled by the "helical" feed of the paper. Cutting: Once the tube has been wound to the required length, a cutting mechanism slices it. There are two main types: Flying Cut: A rotary cutter moves synchronously with the rotating tube to make a clean, instantaneous cut without stopping production. Saw Cut: A circular saw cuts the tube, often used for thicker-walled or larger-diameter cores.
Drying & Ejection: The newly cut, wet cores are pushed off the mandrel onto a conveyor system that carries them through a drying oven. The oven cures the adhesive, ensuring the core achieves its full strength. Automated Handling & Packaging: The dried cores are automatically conveyed to a stacking, polishing (de-burring), and packaging station, ready for shipment.
