Paper Tube Cutting Machinery is a class of industrial equipment designed to slit and cut large, master rolls of paper, paperboard, or spiral-wound paper tubes (also called cores) into precise, shorter lengths. These cut pieces are essential components used across various industries.
Common Applications of Cut Paper Tubes/Cores:
Textiles: Winding cores for yarn, thread, and fabrics.
Packaging: Cores for plastic wrap, aluminum foil, food wrap, and other flexible materials.
Paper & Printing: Cores for newsprint, magazines, and industrial paper rolls.
Labels: Cores for adhesive label rolls.
Construction: Cores for carpet, vinyl flooring, and other rolled materials.
The process in a fully automatic machine is a continuous cycle:
Step 1: Setup & Loading
The operator loads a master roll of paper tube onto the de-reeling stand.
The tube end is threaded through the guide rollers and feeding mechanism.
The operator enters the Cut Length, Quantity, and Cut Speed on the HMI.
Step 2: Cycle Initiation
The operator presses the Start button.
The PLC initiates the homing sequence, moving all components to their start positions.
Step 3: Material Feeding
The servo-driven feed mechanism engages, pulling the tube forward.
The PLC counts pulses from the rotary encoder until the precise desired length is fed.
Step 4: Clamping & Cutting
The feed mechanism stops.
The pneumatic clamp activates, securing the tube.
Once clamping is confirmed, the cutter motor is energized, and the blade makes the cut.
The dust collection system is active during this phase.
Step 5: Ejection & Counting
The clamp retracts.
The discharge conveyor starts, moving the finished piece away.
The PLC increments the "Pieces Cut" counter.
Step 6: Repetition & Completion
The cycle repeats from Step 3.
When the target quantity is reached, the machine stops automatically and alerts the operator.
Precision & Tolerance: High-end machines can hold tolerances as tight as ±0.1mm or better, which is critical for high-speed winding applications.
Cut Quality: A clean, burr-free cut without delamination is essential. The sharpness of the blade and the stability of the clamping system are key factors.
Production Speed: Measured in cuts per minute (CPM). High-speed machines can exceed 200 CPM for small-diameter, thin-walled tubes.
Automation & Integration: Modern machines can be integrated with robotic arms for automatic loading of master rolls and unloading of finished stacks, creating a fully unmanned production cell.
Safety: Equipped with emergency stop buttons, safety light curtains, and interlocked guards to protect operators.
