This is a very specific and high-demand machine in the packaging industry. Let's dive deep into the Automatic BOPP Jumbo Adhesive Tape Roll Slitting Rewinding MachineThis machine is the workhorse for producing the clear (or colored) BOPP packaging tape you see in shipping and logistics worldwide.

What is it?

This is a fully automated converting system designed to take massive, raw BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) film rolls that have been coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive and slit/rewind them into the final, consumer- or industrial-sized rolls of tape.

Key Material Focus: BOPP Film

  • Tough & Durable: BOPP is strong, puncture-resistant, and has excellent clarity.

  • Stable: The biaxial orientation gives it dimensional stability.

  • Adhesive-Receptive: It can be coated with acrylic or hot-melt adhesives effectively.

Why "Automatic" and "Jumbo" are Critical Here

  • Jumbo Rolls: The input rolls can be 1.5 to 2.5 meters wide and over a meter in diameter, weighing over a ton. Handling these manually is inefficient and unsafe.

  • Automatic: Automation is key for profitability and consistency. It minimizes labor, maximizes output, and reduces human error.

Key Features & Advanced Components

Building on the general slitter-rewinder, this machine includes specific automated features:

  1. Fully Automatic Unwinding:

    • Motorized Unwind Stand: With precision brake or servo-driven back-tension control.

    • Automatic Splicing Unit (Butt Splicer or Zero-Speed Splicer): This is crucial. It allows the machine to run continuously. When one jumbo roll is nearly finished, it automatically stops, splices the tail of the expiring roll to the start of a new jumbo roll, and restarts—all without stopping the downstream process. This is a massive productivity booster.

  2. High-Precision Slitting System:

    • Shear Cut Slitting is Mandatory. Razor slitting is not suitable for BOPP tape as it creates a rough, "angel-haired" edge that would contaminate the adhesive and look unprofessional.

    • Automatic Knife Positioning: The operator inputs the desired tape widths on the HMI. Servo motors then automatically position all the top and bottom slitting rings to the exact positions across the web. This eliminates manual measurement and setup time, allowing for quick changeovers between different orders.

  3. Web Handling & Tension Control:

    • Multi-Zone Tension Control: Separate, closed-loop tension control for the unwind, slitting, and rewind zones is essential for handling the thin, stretch-sensitive BOPP film without wrinkling or breaking.

    • Advanced Web Guides: Ensure perfect alignment to prevent telescoped rolls.

  4. Fully Automatic Rewinding:

    • Dual-Drum Center-Surface Rewind: This is the most common and effective system for BOPP tape. The rolls are wound against two large, driven drums. This provides excellent contact pressure, ensuring very tight, hard, and uniform rolls with no air entrapment. The surface drums also help dissipate the heat generated during high-speed winding.

    • Dual Position Shaft (Duplex Rewind): The machine has two rewind shafts. While one shaft is winding, the operator can unload the finished rolls from the other shaft and load it with new cores. At the end of a set, the machine automatically transfers the web to the pre-loaded shaft and continues running, achieving near-continuous production.

  5. Automatic Log Ejection & Saw Cutting:

    • After the rewind shaft reaches the programmed diameter or length, the machine stops.

    • The entire "log" of multiple tape strips is automatically pushed off the shaft onto a discharge table.

    • An automatic circular saw then moves across the log, cutting it into individual rolls of the final, saleable width.

The Workflow of an Automatic BOPP Tape Machine

  1. Loading: A jumbo roll is loaded onto the unwind stand (often with a crane or forklift). Empty cores are loaded onto the idle rewind shaft.

  2. Threading & Setup: The web is threaded through the machine (semi-automatically or fully automatically on high-end models). Slitting widths are set via the HMI.

  3. Production Run:

    • The machine starts, winding tape onto the rewind shaft.

    • It runs at high speed (e.g., 300-600 m/min).

    • The automatic splicer prepares and executes a splice when the jumbo roll is nearly empty.

    • This continues until the rewind roll reaches its target diameter.

  4. Automatic Unloading:

    • The web is cut and transferred to the pre-loaded shaft on the duplex rewinder.

    • The finished log is ejected and automatically sawn into individual rolls.

  5. Cycle Repeats: The process continues with minimal operator intervention.
