The BOPP Adhesive Tape Slitting and Rewinding Machine is a precision-engineered system that transforms a bulk industrial product into the convenient, usable form we all recognize, ensuring consistency, quality, and efficiency in the packaging and sealing industry.
It is an industrial machine designed to convert large, master ("jumbo" or "mother") rolls of BOPP (Biaxial Oriented Polypropylene) film coated with adhesive into the smaller, consumer- and industrial-sized rolls you see in stores.
Its core function is to slit the wide web of tape into multiple narrower strips and rewind them onto individual cardboard cores with precise tension and length.
Unwind Stand:
Holds the jumbo roll (often 1-2 meters wide).
Equipped with a brake (pneumatic or magnetic) or a drive motor to maintain controlled tension as the roll depletes.
Web Guiding System:
Uses sensors to ensure the tape runs perfectly straight through the machine, preventing crooked slitting and uneven rolls.
Slitting Unit (The Heart of the Machine):
This is where the tape is cut to the desired width. Two primary methods are used:
Razor Blade Slitting: A simple, stationary razor blade scores and cuts the tape. Cost-effective, best for thinner, lower-tack tapes.
Shear Cut Slitting: A circular blade cuts against a hardened anvil roll. This is the preferred method for high-speed, high-quality BOPP tape production as it provides a clean, precise, and burr-free edge.
Rewind Shaft:
Holds the empty cores. The slit tape strips are wound onto these cores to form the final rolls.
Often uses a shaftless design for faster loading and unloading.
Can be a single-position shaft or a duplex (two-position) shaft, allowing one set of finished rolls to be unloaded while the other is winding, maximizing efficiency.
Tension Control System:
Extremely critical for quality. It maintains consistent tension from the unwind to the rewind.
Prevents issues like loose rolls, telescoping, wrinkles, or stretched tape.
Uses a combination of dancer rollers, tension sensors, and digitally controlled drives/brakes.
Drive System:
Powers the machine. Modern machines use AC motors or servo motors for precise speed and synchronization control.
Control System (PLC & HMI):
The brain of the machine. The operator uses the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) touchscreen to set parameters like:
Slit width
Finished roll length/diameter
Production speed
Tension settings
The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) ensures all components work in harmony.
Ejection System:
Automatically pushes the finished rolls off the rewind shaft once the preset length is reached.
Loading: The jumbo roll is placed on the unwind stand.
Threading: The tape is threaded through the guides, slitter, and attached to the cores on the rewind shaft.
Setting Up: The operator inputs the desired roll length, width, and speed on the HMI. The slitting blades are positioned accordingly.
Slitting & Rewinding: The machine starts. The tape is slit into multiple strips and simultaneously wound onto individual cores.
Counting & Stopping: The machine counts the length of tape being wound. When the preset length is reached, it stops.
Cutting & Tabbing: The tape is cut (often with a hot knife to seal the adhesive) and the end is tucked ("tabbed") onto the roll for a neat finish.
Ejection: The finished rolls are ejected, ready for labeling and packaging.
Efficiency: Converts jumbo rolls into saleable products at high speeds.
Precision: Ensures consistent roll width, length, and tightness.
Versatility: Can be configured to produce various roll sizes (e.g., 48mm, 50mm, 72mm wide) from the same jumbo roll.
Quality Control: Produces neat, professional-looking rolls free from common defects like telescoping or loose ends.
Profitability: Automates a labor-intensive process, reducing operational costs.
