The primary function is to take a large, wide roll of BOPP tape (the "jumbo roll" or "mother roll") and slit it into multiple narrower strips, then
rewind those strips onto individual cores to create the final product you see in stores or workshops.
A typical BOPP tape slitting rewinding machine consists of several integrated stations:
Unwind Stand:
Purpose: Holds the large jumbo roll of BOPP tape.
Features: Often includes a braking system (pneumatic or magnetic) to maintain proper tension and prevent over-spinning. It may be motor-driven for precise control in more advanced models.
Guiding System:
Purpose: Ensures the web (the sheet of tape) runs straight and aligned through the machine, preventing crooked slitting and roll defects.
Slitting Unit:
Purpose: This is where the actual width-wise cutting happens.
Methods:
Razor Blade Slitting: Uses stationary sharp blades that press against the tape to score and cut it. Common for thinner tapes.
Shear Slitting: Uses a circular upper blade that cuts against a lower anvil roll. This is a cleaner, more precise method and is preferred for high-speed production and thicker tapes. The blades are easily adjustable to change the slit widths.
Rewind Shaft:
Purpose: Holds the empty cardboard or plastic cores onto which the slit tapes are rewound.
Features: Often a shaftless design for easier loading and unloading of finished rolls. It can have multiple stations for simultaneous rewinding.
Tension Control System:
Purpose: Crucially important. It maintains consistent tension throughout the process. Improper tension can cause stretching, wrinkling, telescoping of the rolls, or inconsistent tightness.
Components: Can include dancer rollers, tension sensors, and digitally controlled brakes and drives.
Driving System:
Purpose: Provides the power to pull the tape from the unwind and drive the rewind shaft.
Features: Typically uses AC motors or servo motors for precise speed control.
Control Panel (PLC/HMI):
Purpose: The brain of the machine. The operator sets parameters like speed, roll length, tension, and slit width here.
Features: A Human-Machine Interface (HMI) touchscreen allows for easy programming and monitoring of the production process.
Ejection System:
Purpose: Automatically pushes the finished rolls off the rewind shaft once the preset length is reached, streamlining the process.
Loading: A jumbo roll of BOPP tape is loaded onto the unwind stand.
Threading: The tape is threaded through the guiding system, over the tension rollers, and into the slitting unit.
Slitting: As the tape passes through the slitting unit, the blades (razor or shear) cut it into multiple narrower strips.
Separation & Guidance: The individual strips are separated and guided onto their respective positions on the rewind shaft.
Rewinding: The strips are wound onto individual cores on the rewind shaft. The machine counts the length or measures the diameter.
Stopping & Cutting: When the preset roll length is achieved, the machine stops. The tape is automatically cut (often with a hot knife for a clean, non-sticky end) and the tail is secured to the core.
Ejection: The finished rolls are ejected from the shaft, ready for packaging.
This machine is used by:
BOPP adhesive tape manufacturers.
Tape converters who buy jumbo rolls and slit them for specific customers or markets.
Large companies that use vast amounts of tape and find it economical to slit their own.
