What a Small Machine Actually Does (The Converting Process)

The machine takes a large jumbo roll and performs all these steps automatically or semi-automatically:

1. Unwinding: Holds the jumbo roll and feeds the paper into the machine.

2. Embossing: Passes the paper through engraved rollers to add a pattern for softness and decoration.

3. Ply Bonding (for 2-ply): If making 2-ply, it combines two layers of paper with glue.

4. Perforating: Adds the tear-off lines between sheets.

5. Rewinding: Winds the paper onto long cardboard tubes, creating a continuous "log."

6. Log Cutting: Automatically cuts the long log into smaller, individual bathroom rolls.

A basic and affordable small production line usually consists of two main machines:

1. Semi-Automatic Toilet Paper Rewinding Machine: This is the core unit that handles steps 1-5 above.

2. Log Sawing Machine: This separate machine handles step 6, cutting the logs into individual rolls.

For a very low-budget startup, some processes like putting rolls into plastic wrap might be done manually.
