An automatic parallel paper tube making machine is a sophisticated industrial machine designed to produce paper tubes and cores continuously and with high precision. The term "parallel" signifies that the machine produces tubes with a consistent diameter from one end to the other, as opposed to conical tubes (like those for yarn) which taper.
These machines are fully automated, meaning they integrate multiple processes—from unwinding the paper to cutting the finished tube—with minimal human intervention. They are known for their high speed, efficiency, and consistent output quality.
The process is a continuous, in-line operation:
Unwinding: Multiple rolls of paper (called "slips") are mounted on an unwinding stand. The number of layers determines the tube's wall thickness. Special paper like kraft paper, laminated paper, or specialty grades are used.
Gluing: As the paper sheets are fed into the machine, they pass through a precision gluing system. Glue is applied evenly to the surface of each paper layer.
Spiral Winding (for Spiral Tubes): The glued paper strips are wound diagonally around a rotating mandrel (a metal rod of the desired inner diameter). Each layer is wound in the opposite direction to the previous one, creating a strong, spiral-wound structure. This is the most common type.
Alternative: Parallel Winding (Spin Winding): For the highest rigidity, paper strips are wound parallel to the mandrel's axis, not diagonally. This method creates "parallel" tubes with superior crush resistance.
Heating & Drying: The wound tube passes through a heating tunnel or under infrared heaters. This accelerates the curing of the adhesive, ensuring the tube is strong and stable by the end of the machine.
Cutting: Once the tube has reached a predetermined length, a high-speed, synchronized cutting system (often a rotary cutter or a flying saw) cuts it to the exact size without stopping the production flow.
Ejection: The finished, cut tubes are automatically ejected and stacked, ready for collection or packaging.
Unwinding Stand: Holds the paper rolls, often with tension control for consistent feeding.
Gluing System: Consists of glue tanks, pumps, and precision applicators to ensure a uniform glue coat.
Mandrel: The heart of the machine. It defines the inner diameter of the tube. Machines can have multiple mandrels for quick size changes.
Forming Belt / Winding Head: Applies pressure to wrap the paper tightly around the mandrel and bond the layers.
Drying System: Typically uses electric or gas-powered heaters to quickly dry the adhesive.
Cutting System: A critical component for precision. Uses servo motors for accurate, burr-free cuts.
PLC Control Panel: The brain of the machine. Allows operators to set parameters (length, speed, glue amount) and monitors the entire process.
Servo Drive System: Provides precise control over the paper feed, winding, and cutting, ensuring synchronization and high quality.
The tubes produced by these machines are essential in many industries:
Packaging: Core for plastic wrap, aluminum foil, cling film, gift wrap, and industrial tapes.
Textiles: Core for yarns, threads, and fabrics.
Paper & Printing: Core for newsprint, kraft paper, and other roll materials.
Construction: As concrete casting forms (e.g., for pillars).
Specialty Products: Cores for carpets, vinyl flooring, and promotional materials.
High Production Speed: Can produce hundreds to thousands of tubes per hour.
Consistent Quality: Automation ensures every tube has the same diameter, wall thickness, and strength.
Labor Savings: Requires minimal operator attention, mainly for loading paper and removing finished tubes.
Material Efficiency: Precise control minimizes glue and paper waste.
Flexibility: Modern machines can be quickly adjusted to produce different diameters and lengths.
